Astronomy
Introducton to Astronomy and the Night Sky for Beginners
In our classroom sessions we will learn about the universe. Topics covered in class will range from stars, planets, galaxies, and moons to physics and stellar mythology. Students will spend time in most lessons participating in hands-on demonstrations and experiments. Weather permitting we will meet at least once a month to observe constellations, planets, the moon and other wonders of the night sky..

Extreme Stargazing
This course is for the diehards willing to brave extreme weather and the wee hours of the night in order to observe special sky events like meteor showers and eclipses. Dates and times for these events to be announced. Please email us to register for an event.

Learn the fundamentals of archaeology and how the archaeological record teaches us about the past. We will study archaeological sites locally and around the world. Students will also spend several weeks participating in a "mock dig".

Avaiable to students who wish to pursue an individual interest in the sciences, social sciences and humanities. This course
will primarily be a student-driven independent study.

The Homeschool Annex is an educational organization based in Scottsville, Virginia serving the needs of homeschoolers in this area. Our aim is to offer courses that will not only teach science and humanities, but also broaden understanding of the world and the universe. And because the best learning occurs in the real world, much of our classtime will be spent out of the classroom.
About the Instructor
Jennifer Borishansky, a resident of Scottsville, earned her Bachelors in Anthropology and Archaeology with minors in Classics and
Archival Management/Community Documentation from Brooklyn College. She also studied Astronomy at the College of Santa Fe in New Mexico.
Jennifer's goal is to expose people of all ages to each of her diverse fields of study in a dynamic way: by framing information in the proper context of the past, present, future - you could say the universe!
